Science Experiment to show that oxygen is liberated during photosynthesis
Let us conduct an experiment to show that oxygen is liberated during photosynthesis.
1. Take a beaker and fill three-quarters of it with water.
2. Place some hydrilla plant into the beaker.
3. Put an Inverted a glass funnel over hydrilla plant. The plants should be trapped under the funnel at the base of the beaker.
4. Take a test tube filled with water and hold your finger or thumb over the top of the test tube and gently turn the test tube over into the stem of the funnel.
5. Place the beaker in the sunlight for photosynthesis to take place.
6. You will observe the bubbles of a gas coming from the leaves of the hydrilla plant.
7. The water level in the test tube starts dropping down as oxygen collects in the test tube.
8. Take the test tube out of the jar carefully, keeping your thumb over the test tube.
9. Light the match at the mouth of the test tube and you will observe the lighted match burns vigorously indicating the presence of oxygen.
** Oxygen support burning**
Conclusion:
The tube contained oxygen liberated as a by-product of photosynthesis.
