All Living things respond to stimulus

A stimulus is a change in an organism's environment that affects the activity of the organism.
A response is any reaction of a living thing to stimulus.
All Living organisms show response to stimulus such as temperature, light and sound.
Let us learn by examples:

 (1) The leaves of touch-me-not plant folds when touched
Here touching is the stimuli and curling or folding of leaves is the response. In this case the plant responds to someone touch.

(2) We can see another example of plant responding to light and temperature.

(a) Take a small potted plant and place it near a window through which sunlight can come in.
(b) Leave it for few days
(c) What do you observe?
(d) You will notice that after a few days the plant has bent toward that window from where the sunlight was coming.
(e) Plants usually display a positive response to light, which means they grow toward a light source.
(f) This response of plant towards light is known as phototropism.
