States of Water
States of Water- Science Animation State of Water (1) Water freezes to form ice (2) Ice melts to form water (3) Water evaporates to form water vapour (4) Water vapour condenses to form water Lets’ us learn what is Evaporation and Condensation WHAT IS EVAPORATION ? When water is heated it changes its state to water vapour. This change of state from water to water vapour is called Evaporation. We can see the process of evaporation taking place in our daily life. (1) How do we dry our wet clothes? We hung up our wet clothes outside in the sun to dry up. The water in the wet clothes evaporate to form water vapour due to heat from the sun. Hence dries our cloth. (2) The water in sea, river and ponds evaporates because of the heat of the sun. The water is evaporated to form water vapour. The water vapour rises higher up in the atmosphere. The air higher up in the atmosphere is cooler. The cool air condenses the water vapour to form tiny water droplets. These tiny droplets combine together to form cloud. The water droplets in the cloud further combine to form large droplets and fall on the earth in the form of rain. CONDENSATION Condensation is the process in which the water vapour changes its state from vapour to water. Let us understand condensation by an example. (1) Take a glass and fill it with ice cubes. (2) Cover the glass with thick cardboard. (3) What do you observe? (4) You will see the tiny water droplets appearing on the outside of the glass (5) How does it happen? (6) Air in contact with the glass cools down and the water vapour in the air also cools down and condenses to form water.
