Transpiration in Plants
Transpiration in Plants The plants absorb water and mineral through their roots by the process called osmosis. The water and minerals absorbed are transported through stem to leaves, flowers and other parts of the plant through suction force. The transportation takes place with the help of cell called xylem. The excess water absorbed by the plants is lost through the stomata present in the leaves in the form of water vapour.
This process of evaporation of excess water from the leaf is known as transpiration. Experiment to demonstrate Transpiration in plants
1. Take a medium–sized potted plant. 2. Cover the plant with a transparent polythene bag and tie it round the base of the stem. 3. Leave the plant in sunlight for a few hours. 4. You will observe drops of water appearing on the inner side of the polythene bag. 5. This shows that water vapour is evaporated through the plant leaves by the process known as transpiration.
