Zones of Candle Flame
Science Experiments/ Science Projects
Flame is a region where combustion of fuel takes place to produce heat and light.
The colour of flame depends on the temperature, availability of air and nature of substance burning.
Various zones of a candle flame
If we watch the flame of burning candle we can observe the different zones of the candle flame.
It can be described as follows:
(a) Outermost zone- Complete Combustion- Appear blue in colour
(b) Middle zone- Partial Combustion- Appear yellow in colour
(c) Innermost zone- Un-burnt wax- Appear black in colour
Few points to remember:
1) Outer zone is the hottest part of the flame (almost colorless)
2) Middle zone: Made luminous by glowing carbon particles
3) Inner zone: Little combustion because of lack of oxygen
